Title: Need to allocate Rs. 96 crore to expedite the doubling of the Madurai-Dindigul rail line. â Laid.
(MADURAI) : I bring to the kind attention of the Minister of Railways that doubling of Madurai-Dindigul rail line is taking its own time for completion. Rupees 96 crores was allotted to this project. Now, in the current Budget 2004-2005, only a paltry sum of Rs. 3.22 crore has been allocated. With this small amount, the doubling project may take longer time. The projects is vital for connection to West and North of Madurai. The single-track system is giving constraints to run and introduce more trains from Chennai to South Tamil Nadu. The project, therefore, assumes more significance considering the traffic volume of passenger as well as goods. Hence, I request, the Government to allot the entire amount of Rs. 96 crore for early completion of the project.
