Title : Non-placement of order by BSNL to Hindustan Cables Limited and steps taken for its revival.

SHRI BASU DEB ACHARIA (BANKURA): Sir, Hindustan Cables Limited, a cable manufacturing unit, has its three units in three States of our country; Rupnarayan Pur in West Bengal, Nainy in Uttar Pradesh and third one is at Hyderabad.  The Hindustan Cables Limited manufactures jelly fill cables as well as optic fiber cables.  Production in these three units has been stopped because the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has not placed order to the Hindustan Cables for manufacture of either jelly fill or optic fiber cables.  This is the only public sector undertaking which manufactures cable.  BSNL is in urgent need of cables.  There are a number of exchanges which are not being commissioned just because there is shortage of cable.  The expansion work has also been hampered because of shortage of cables.

Tata Consultancy Service has been appointed to prepare the revival package for the Hindustan Cables. It has submitted its report but the Government has yet to take action in regard to the revival of Hindustan Cables. I urge upon the Government, that in the interest of not only 3000 workers and their families but also in the interest of 50,000 people who are directly or indirectly dependent on the Hindustan Cables, to take urgent steps in regard to the revival of Hindustan Cables Limited as per the package given by the BIFR, and BSNL should also place orders to the Hindustan Cables.  I demand that immediate action be taken in regard to the revival of Hindustan Cables Limited.
