Need To Declare Naginimora-Kohima Road As A National Highway. on 20 November, 2001

Title: Need to declare Naginimora-Kohima road as a National Highway.

SHRI K.A. SANGTAM (NAGALAND): Sir, an important strategic single-lane road on the Indo-Myanmar border in the eastern most region, which starts from Naginimora and goes to Kohima, passes through Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Melourie, is considered as a lifeline for the people of that region. Besides, the four most viable international trade centres recognised by the Government of India to open international trade centres with the South-East Asia are located parallel to this road and there is also a heavy deposit of natural resources found in this region as well.

I would request the Government of India to declare this road as a National Highway and include it in the Tenth Five-Year Plan and convert it into two-lane traffic and join up with the Prime Minister’s dream road of North-South and East-West which is proposed to be extended towards Sibsagar in Assam.
