Title: Urged the government to take stringent action towards attacks on the christian institutions in Uttar Pradesh.
: I would like to draw the attention of the Government to the recent spate of attacks on the minority institutions in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and even in Maharashtra. Mainly these incidents have been reported from Uttar Pradesh. Fourteen cases have been reported. Weeks back hon. Member Shri Sudip Bandyopadhyay had raised this issue in the House. But, till now no action has been taken; nobody has been arrested; and nobody has been brought to book.
I have myself visited Mathura. I am sorry to say that members of the minority community, especially inmates of convents, are living in fear. The Government has not taken any action so far to protect them. It is a sorry state of affairs that in a great democratic country like ours, a minority community has to live in fear. It is the duty of the Central Government to protect the life and property of the members belonging to minority communities.
In fact, the Government had assured in this House itself some weeks back that proper action would be taken.
These incidents are brushed away as acts of robbery and theft. Actually, these incidents started happening after the Bajrang Dal organised a camp in Mathura. From 8th March to 18th April, 14 cases had happened mainly in UP. But no action has been taken so far which is very unfortunate. I urge upon the Central Government to direct the UP Government to take stringent action to see that occurrences will not happen again and to protect the life and property of all the minorities in the country, especially in UP.
