Judgment

The petitioners appeared for the First Professional MBBS

Degree Examination conducted by the University of Calicut in

August, 2009. The results were published on 3.11.2009. The

petitioners failed in ‘Physiology – Papers I and II’. They have

therefore applied for revaluation of their answer scripts by

submitting Exts.P1 and P2 applications respectively. It is

submitted that the requisite fee has also been paid. The

petitioners submit that they have done well in the examination

and that they are hopeful of securing a pass if their answer

scripts are revalued. They also submit that without passing the

First Professional MBBS Degree Examination, they cannot

attend the second year classes and that therefore unless their

answer scripts are expeditiously revalued, they will be put to

serious prejudice. In this writ petition, the petitioners seek

expeditious revaluation of their answer scripts.

W.P.(C) No.32984/2009 2

3. Sri.P.C.Sasidharan, the learned standing counsel

appearing for the University of Calicut submits that the pass

percentage for the First Professional MBBS Degree Examination

is below 61% in all the Medical Colleges affiliated to the

University of Calicut taken together, that a large number of

candidates are likely to seek revaluation, that the last date

stipulated for submission of applications for revaluation is

18.11.2009 and that within eight weeks thereafter, the

University will revalue the petitioners’ answer scripts and

communicate the result to them.

In the light of the said submission, I dispose of this writ

petition with a direction to the respondents to take steps to

have the petitioners’ answer scripts described in Exts.P1 and P2

applications revalued and to communicate the result to them

expeditiously and in any event, within eight weeks from the

date on which the petitioners produce a certified copy of this

judgment before the Controller of Examinations, University of

Calicut.
