CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE T.S.THAKUR,CHIEF JUSTICE
HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE KANWALJIT SINGH AHLUWALIA

Present : None for the petitioner

            Mr. O.S.Batalvi, Advocate
            for respondent No.1

Mr. Rupinder Khosla, Addl. A.G. Punjab
            for respondents No.2 and 3.

                                *****

T.S.Thakur, C.J. (Oral)

This petition has been filed in public interest. It prays for a

mandamus directing the respondents to erect a sign board showing the

direction of the road from Ropar to Nangal via Nurpur Bedi which

according to the petitioner is a newly constructed road and provides a

shorter road link between Ropar and Nangal cities.

When the matter came up for hearing before us on

16.12.2008, no one appeared for the petitioner nor was any copy of the

petition served upon M/S Batalvi and Madhu Dayal, Addl. Advocate

General, Punjab appearing for respondents No.1 to 3. Even today, no

one appears for the petitioner, although an adjournment slip has been

filed on the personal ground of counsel for the petitioner.

CWP No. 9997 of 2008 [2]

Keeping in view, however, the limited prayer which the

petitioner has made, namely a direction to the respondents to erect a

sign board, we consider it unnecessary to keep the present petition

pending on our board. The proper course in our opinion is to direct that

the Principal Secretary, PWD (B&R), Government of Punjab, shall treat

the writ petition as a representation from the petitioner for providing a

proper sign board showing the directions and the road distance from

Ropar to Nangal via Nurpur Bedi. Needless to say that if sign boards

are provided by any statutory or other Authority other than that under

the control of the State of Punjab, the Secretary shall take up the matter

with the concerned agency and have the same examined and appropriate

order on the subject passed expeditiously but not later than six months

from the date a copy of the order is received by the Secretary.

With the above observation, the petition is disposed off.

No costs.

A copy of the writ petition altogether a copy of this order

shall be forwarded to the Principal Secretary, PWD (B&R),

Government of Punjab, for compliance.
