Title: Bomb explosions on the eve of Independence Day celeberations at some places in the Assam.
(LAKHIMPUR): Mr. Speaker, Sir, the incident that happened in Dhemaji district of Assam yesterday was due to a serious security lapse because it has killed not only 13 persons including children, but also injured more than 22 persons. The incident took place on the eve of Independence Day celebrations and half-an-hour before that, there was another incident at Dhakuakhana. Both the incidents took place in the celebration area which ought to have been a highly secured place.
Sir, the State Government was well informed that there was a threat from extremists and there was likely to be some attacks by extremists during the Independence Day celebrations. In addition to that, after they were informed of the Dhakuakhana incident, the district authorities at Dhemaji did not evacuate the people including the children. As a result of that, this unfortunate incident happened and 13 people were killed including some children. The bomb explosion took place not only at Dhemaji, but there were a series of bomb blasts in Assam. So, I would like to request the hon. Home Minister, through you, to make a statement on this and also institute a high level inquiry into the security lapse which led to such unfortunate incidents and book all the culprits who were involved in these incidents.
(DIBRUGARH): Mr. Speaker, Sir, I associate myself with the views expressed by him.
