Title: Need to provide more railway facilities at Arakkonam Junction in Tamil Nadu – laid.

DR. S. JAGATHRAKSHAKAN

(ARAKKONAM) : Certain trains are not, at present, making a stoppage at Arakkonam Junction though there is a strong demand for this and the number of passengers boarding at Arakkonam is increasing day by day. I would therefore urge upon the hon. Railway Minister to issue instructions for the stoppage of the following tains at Arakkonam Junction : 2639/2640 Chennai-Bangalore Superfast Express 1063/1064 Chennai-Dadar Express 6319/6320 Chennai-Trivandrum MailAt present, Engineering workshop at Arakkonam does not get many job orders and sometimes the Workshop is not used at its optimum level. To boost the Workshop and to get adequate job orders, the Workshop may be made to Mechanical Workshop with some training to workers wherever necessary. This would not only help railways to utilize its workshop to an optimum level but also generate more economic activities and also employment opportunities to the unemployed.

There is need for opening of a sub-urban Railway Terminal in front of Arakkonam Bus Stand since the present Junction is far away from the town and the daily commuters have to walk a long distance for their avocations and destinations.
