Title: Need to accord sanction to the proposal of Government of Tripura for modernization of police force to combat terrorism in the State -Laid.

SHRI KHAGEN DAS

(TRIPURA WEST) : The Central Government is well aware of the fact that Tripura, which has a long porous international border with Bangladesh has a long standing problem of terrorism. Two outlawed terrorist outfits viz. National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tigers’ Force (ATTF) are very much active in Tripura and are indulging in barbarous killings, kidnapping, extortion of money etc. The terrorists have procured a large number of sophisticated weapons including AK series and communication equipment. They are getting training and other support from a number of organisations operating in the North East Region. They are also being aided and abetted by ISI and other foreign agencies. To combat the terrorists, the State Government has sent several proposals to the Central Government for modernization of its police forces. The proposal includes sophisticated weapons, bulletproof jackets and different types of bulletproof vehicles. I request the Central Government to immediately fulfill the modernization and training needs of Tripura Police Force.
