China has launched a special drive to enable its 300 lawyers gain proficiency in foreign-related business within next four years so that they could help more Chinese companies to go abroad.
Initiated by Ministry of Justice and the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA), the programme was launched Monday. It would focus on training 120 lawyers in three areas — foreign investment, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and international financial and securities businesses, Xinhua news agency reported.
It will also train 150 lawyers in international trade, copyright protection and businesses concerning the World Trade Organisation, as well as 30 lawyers in businesses related to resources, maritime and space rights.
Speaking on this occasion, Zhao Dacheng, vice minister of justice, said the programme was necessary and urgent to improve Chinese lawyers’ skills in foreign-related businesses, as at present they were unable to meet the country’s needs.
The programme will organise training sessions, field studies and high-end forums in and outside China.
The ACLA will also introduce the trainees to work in international organisations and multinational cooperation projects so as to improve their capabilities.
