Two men and a woman have been awarded varying jail terms of eight and seven years by a Delhi court in a rape case in which the victim was taken out of the capital and ravished after her drink was spiked.
The court said it has been proved that the three convicts, who were also involved in illegal supply of drugs, took the victim from Delhi to Amritsar where she was raped.
The court sentenced convict Rakesh Chhabra, 40, to eight years in jail for the offences of rape, criminal intimidation, causing hurt by means of poison and conspiracy.
It also awarded seven years jail each to Sonu Suri, a 38- year-old woman, and Harbinder Singh, 54, for offences abetment to rape, criminal conspiracy and hurting by means of poison.
“I am of the opinion that prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that accused Chhabra along with co accused Suri and Singh had entered into a criminal conspiracy to take the prosecutrix to Amritsar from Delhi as all accused were involved in illegal supply of drugs and also to commit sexual assault upon prosecutrix,” Additional Sessions Judge Shail Jain said.
The court said it has been proved by prosecution that the convicts had administered some intoxicating substance in the cold drink to the victim in Amritsar and Chhabra raped her and also threatened her of dire consequences.
The victim had lodged a complaint against the trio at Moti Nagar Police Station in west Delhi alleging that she knew Suri and Singh from past few years and had gone to Amritsar with the three accused where she was raped by Chhabra.
After returning to Delhi, the victim informed her husband about the incident and an FIR was lodged.
During the trial, the three accused denied the allegations and claimed that they were falsely implicated in the case.
