Lawyers of all the six district courts in Delhi today decided to abstain from judicial work for the next two days against delay in tabling in Parliament an amended bill regarding enhancement of the pecuniary jurisdiction of trial courts.
The coordination committee of all district courts bar associations here said the lawyers will hold a protest march against the central government outside Prime Minister’s residence on April 23.
“The advocates urge the Prime Minister that the bill for pecuniary jurisdiction of Rs two crore for district courts of Delhi should be re-tabled and passed in the ongoing (resumed) budget session of the Parliament,” Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar, convenor of the coordination committee, said.
The lawyers’ body said “The bill was tabled and presented in the Rajya Sabha on March 4, however, much to the agony and discomfort of all the affected lawyers and litigants of Delhi, the bill failed to achieve its objective and got deferred on no related issue of setting up of commercial division in all high courts, vis-a-vis of conferring pecuniary jurisdiction of Rs two crore for district courts of Delhi.”
The lawyers will abstain from work in six district courts — Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka courts.
The lawyers’ body said the full bench of Delhi High Court had recommended to the central government that pecuniary jurisdiction be enhanced from the existing Rs 20 lakh to Rs 2 crore, but nothing has been done till date.
The strike in all 6 district courts of Delhi has further been extended from 24th April 2015 to 28th April 2015 as decided by the Coordinating Committee of the Delhi District Courts Bar Association.
