The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday ordered that every household in Delhi will have to pay environmental compensation for the treatment of Yamuna.
Tribunal also said that the compensation in this regard will be directly proportional to the property tax or water bill, whichever is higher and in the case of unauthorised colonies, the monthly compensation will be between the range of Rs 100 to Rs 500.
“Payment of this compensation will be added to electricity bills, water bills and the property tax, in order of preference by the respective departments,” informed one of the officials adding that this amount will be utililsed to treat and manage sewage waste.
