“Don’t Lay Your Liberties At The Feet Of Even A Great Man”: Chief Justice

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi on the occasion of ‘Constitution Day’ on Monday hosted a Dinner Which was beinf attended by the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, judges of Supreme Court and judges from several neighbouring countries.

Before the dinner, Justice Gogoi delivered a speech in which he underscored the supremacy of the Constitution. Further quoting the British political economist, Justice Gogoi said, “There is nothing wrong in being grateful to a great man who has rendered life-long services to the country. But there are limits to gratefulness,”  he added.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Justice had addressed another event held at Vigyan Bhawan on ‘Constitution Day’. President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad besides judges from the neighbouring countries were also present. The Constitution Day, marking the adoption of the constitution in 1950, is “inextricably entwined” in our lives and it is in our best interest to pay attention to its advice, the Chief Justice said.
