A court here today sentenced an ex- official of the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) to four years of imprisonment, besides slapping a total fine of Rs 26.96 lakh on the convict, in connection with two cases of corruption.

The amount of fine is believed to be the highest slapped by an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Rajasthan.

Anandi Lal Mathur (72), a former superintendent engineer (SE) of JVVNL, was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a contractor at his office here in 1999.

Subsequently, searches at his residence had unearthed assets disproportionate to his income and a separate case in this regard was lodged against Mathur.

Special ACB Judge Ashwani Vij sentenced Mathur to four years of imprisonment in the bribery case, told Ahesaan Ahmed, Assistant Director Prosecution (ADP), ACB Court, Kota.

In the disproportionate assets case, the court fined Mathur Rs 15 lakh and directed the Kota district collector to collect an additional amount of Rs 11.96 lakh by selling his movable and immovable properties, he added.

“The fine is likely to be the biggest slapped by an ACB court in Rajasthan,” said Ahmed.
