RANCHI: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday refused to extend the provisional bail of Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janta Dal Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and has asked him to surrender before August.

RJD chief Lalu Yadav has been convicted in several cases linked to the Bihar fodder scam. Hearing his request for an extension of provisional bail for three months on grounds that he needed to undergo treatment, Justice Apresh Kumar Singh asked the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief to surrender by August 30 before the CBI court and directed the state government to provide medical care whenever needed.

Prasad’s lawyer pleaded for three months extension of his bail on medical ground but the court turned it down. The court told Lalu’s counsel that he would now have to undergo treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

He is currently undergoing treatment at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai.

On August 10, the Jharkhand High Court had extended the provisional bail of the former Bihar CM till August 20.
