A Haryana bureaucrat has been sentenced by a court in Karnal to five years’ imprisonment in a case of fraud, an official of the state vigilance bureau said Tuesday.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar sentenced Haryana Civil Services officer Deveshwar Dayal to five years’ imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs.45,000 on him.

The Haryana vigilance bureau had earlier filed a case against him following an enquiry in Karnal for fraudulently printing penalty slip (challan) books during his tenure as Haryana Roadways general manager, the official said.

Dayal was posted as Haryana Roadways general manager in Karnal from October 1999 to May 2001. He was accused of causing loss to the state exchequer by issuing fake penalty slips.
