The controversy surrounding sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Jyoti Maurya has now advanced to the doors of the Delhi High Court. The government official has submitted a plea requesting the removal of social media posts, songs, and memes that have been trolling her and her husband, Alok, a Class-IV employee.
Jyoti Maurya has been embroiled in a heated dispute since her spouse, Alok Maurya, alleged that she had engaged in an affair with Manish Dubey, who is stationed as a home guard commandant in Ghaziabad. In a video, Alok Maurya was captured shedding tears over his wife’s departure after assuming the role of an SDM.
Subsequent to this, Jyoti has maintained that she was subjected to significant criticism from social media users and bore the brunt of backlash as a result of her husband’s accusations, causing both professional and emotional strain.
Presently, Jyoti Maurya has turned to the Delhi High Court to seek the removal of videos, memes, and other such content posted against her across various social media platforms.
In her petition, Jyoti Maurya has appealed to the court to instruct the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to eliminate fake news, audio recordings, and objectionable content being circulated on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Considering the online harassment as a violation of her right to privacy, Jyoti has asserted that a campaign of misinformation was orchestrated against her, and she became the target of online users who allegedly created explicit songs and videos involving her. Additionally, she contends that despite filing a First Information Report (FIR) in this regard, the police have failed to take any appropriate action.
DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS
The hearing for the divorce petition filed by SDM Jyoti Maurya against her husband Alok Maurya was scheduled for today, but the presiding officer was unavailable due to training. As a result, the hearing has been rescheduled for September 22. Both Jyoti Maurya and Alok Maurya were absent during today’s session.
Jyoti Maurya was not present in court during the initial hearing of her divorce plea last month.
The divorce petition was submitted amidst ongoing drama between the Maurya couple.
In June, a video of Alok interacting with a group of reporters went viral on social media. In the video, Alok accused Jyoti of infidelity and was visibly distressed about their failing marriage. Alok referenced WhatsApp conversations allegedly exchanged between Jyoti and Manish and also claimed to have caught them “red-handed” in 2020.
Today’s hearing will take place in Prayagraj’s family court.
