The Lok Sabha today dropped the Motion for the impeachment of Justice Soumitra Sen of the Calcutta High Court after President Pratibha Devisingh Patil accepted his resignation yesterday.
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid moved the motion to drop impeachment proceedings against Sen as soon as the Lok Sabha met at 1400 hrs for its post-lunch sitting.
Speaker Meira Kumar put it to vote before the House, which adopted the motion.
The Rajya Sabha has already adopted the impeachment motion against Justice Sen.
Justice Sen was held guilty by the Council of States last month on charges of misappropriating Rs 33.23 lakh in a 1983 case when he was appointed a receiver by the High Court. The Upper House had on August 18 adopted an impeachment motion for removal of Justice Sen with 189 members voting in favour and 16 against, after he had put up a robust defence.
