A man has been awarded life imprisonment by a local court for killing his brother-in-law three years ago.

“Special judge B K Singh awarded life imprisonment to Neeraj and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, after finding him guilty of murdering his sister’s husband on circumstantial and last seen evidence, on Tuesday,” Senior Prosecution Officer Gautam Buddha Nagar, Daya Shankar Ram Tripathi said today.

According to prosecution, Neeraj’s sister had gone missing and he suspected the involvement of her husband.

“About a month before the murder, the accused was living with his brother-in-law at Rabupura and was looking for an opportunity to kill him. On March 23, 2014, he took him to fields and killed him,” Tripathi said.

Total eight witnesses, all indirect including investigation officer Shailendra Pratap, were produced before the court, who said that they had not seen Neeraj killing his brother-n-law but had seen the accused taking victim to fields, he said.

“Rabupura Police had arrested Neeraj the same day and recovered the weapon of crime. The victim’s body had injury marks on the neck and also post-mortem report confirmed death due to neck injury,” said the SPO.

On March 26, 2014 Devi Singh, a resident of village Faleda, had lodged an FIR at Rabupura Police Station saying last night his cousin Harpal’s son Pravin and his brother-in- law Neeraj had an altercation.

Thereafter, Neeraj had taken Harpal with him to the field and killed him with sharp-edged weapon.
