The Delhi High Court Thursday awarded compensation to the family of a man who died due to a stray gunshot during a marriage ceremony.

A division bench of Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Suresh Kait granted Rs.3.5 lakhs to Rajender’s parents. The money is to be paid in two months.

According to the prosecution, Rajender died when a bullet fired by a member of the marriage party hit his forehead.

The accused, Mukesh Kumar Gupta, was apprehended at the spot and badly beaten. Since then he is in jail.

‘There is no motive for the crime. There is no desire to seek any pecuniary gain. There is neither hatred nor anger, much less any kind of enmity against the deceased,’ the court said while acquitting Gupta from all the charges after setting aside the earlier order.
