A court at Bina town in the district today rejected the application of controversial godman Nirmal Baba seeking exemption from personal appearance in a case of cheating.

Judicial Magistrate First Class R K Devalia directed Nirmal Baba to appear before the court on July 17. The application had been moved by Nirmal Baba’s lawyer, M S Kourav. Following a complaint filed by Bina resident Surendra Vishwkarma against the spiritual leader, the court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant, and directed the police to produce him on June 25. But police informed the court that a team which went to an address in New Delhi’s Nehru Place area found that he was not there. Sessions court at Khurai in the district had earlier rejected Baba’s anticipatory bail application. According to Vihwakarma, he kept Rs 2,000 in a black purse so that his finances may improve, on Baba’s instructions. But instead, he lost the purse with the money. Also, Baba had advised him to give `kheer’ to his ailing diabetic father, but it led to rise in the sugar level and worsened his condition, the complaint says.

  1. Two corrections, please:

    1. “Kripa” should be spelt “Kirpa”
    2. Lease resistance should read “least resistance”.

  2. Nirmal Baba is an intelligent, clever and cunning guru. He exudes affluence, patiently listens to grievances of his followers, and gives out simple remedies that can be followed by all his followers. Give kheer, give ladu or roti to cow, give food to children on the streets, visit some shrines etc.etc. His discourses run around, “shaktia”, “Kripa” etc. He does not talk against any deity or temple etc. He is definitely following a path of lease resistance – all can go to him. At the same time, perhaps, he is depriving his followers any in-depth, purifying sermons. He does not display knowledge or authority on any scriptures, does not quote any verses from any. Yes, he is doing good business ! Law can certainly look into this aspect of making a fast buck and easy money from gullible followers.
