Businessman Sunjay Kapur, chairman of auto-parts giant Sona Comstar, passed away suddenly in June 2025 while playing polo in London. Doctors confirmed his death was due to natural causes. But what followed was not peaceful—his ₹30,000 crore fortune has sparked a fierce family fight in the Delhi High Court.
Marriages and Family
Sunjay first married designer Nandita Mahtani in 1996. They divorced in 2000 and had no children.
He then married Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor. They had two children—Samaira (born 2005) and Kiaan (born 2011)—before divorcing in 2016.
In 2017, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, who was earlier married to hotelier Vikram Chatwal. They had a son, Azarias, and Sunjay also adopted Priya’s daughter, Safira.
The Dispute Over the Will
After Sunjay’s death, Priya produced a will dated March 21, 2025, which left all of Sunjay’s personal estate to her. Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, claim their father had always promised them a share but left them out of this will. They allege that Priya may have altered the document.
Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has also challenged the will, demanding ₹10,000 crore as her rightful share in the family business.
Court Drama
Samaira and Kiaan, represented by their mother Karisma, have filed a case to freeze Sunjay’s assets until the matter is resolved.
Rani Kapur accuses Priya of sidelining her and secretly selling shares worth ₹500 crore.
Priya, meanwhile, insists the will is genuine and has already taken her husband’s place on company boards and industry associations.
The case has seen fiery exchanges between top lawyers in court. At one hearing, tempers flared when Priya’s lawyer and the children’s lawyer clashed over interruptions during arguments.
What’s at Stake
Assets worth ₹30,000 crore, including Sona Comstar shares and personal property.
The future control of Aureus Investment, which holds the promoter stake in Sona Comstar.
Next Steps
The Delhi High Court has asked Priya to disclose all of Sunjay’s assets. The matter will be heard again on October 9, 2025.
This real-life battle over wealth, power, and family loyalties has been compared to the hit TV show Succession. With Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, her children, and Sunjay’s third wife Priya on opposite sides, the courtroom fight is drawing as much attention as a blockbuster film.
