PNB fraud: Mehul Choksi gets time till October 30 file reply to Enforcement Directorate (ED) plea

NEW DELHI: A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court gave diamond jeweller Mehul Choksi, time till October 30 to respond to Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea plea, seeking to declare him a “fugitive” under a new law.

Earlier, the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court had summoned Choksi before it on September 26 in connection with the ED’s plea to declare him a “fugitive” under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.

While Choksi is still out of the country, his lawyers Sanjay Abod and Rahul Agrawal appearing before the court presided over by Judge M.S. Azmi,  told that they had been provided a copy of the ED’s complaint in the USD 2 billion fraud case and needed some time to file a reply.

Following this, the judge adjourned the matter to October 30 for filing the reply.The agency provided all documents to Choksi’s lawyers, after which the court directed them to file a reply by October 30.
