Rash driving: Parents of 10-yr-old boy get Rs 3.75 lakh

Motor Accident Claims TribunalUttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has been directed to pay Rs 3.75 lakh compensation to the parents of a 10-year-old child, who died after being hit by a rashly driven bus owned by it.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, presided by Kiran Bansal, passed the order on the complaint of Uttar Pradesh residents Munni Devi and Braham Singh whose son died in the road accident in 2012.

“From the statement of prosecution witness, Munni Devi (mother) and in view of the criminal case record, it is proved that the deceased Rohit sustained fatal injuries in accident which occurred on March 13, 2012, due to rash and negligent driving of offending vehicle…Driven by its driver,” the tribunal said, adding that “the petitioner is entitled to a total compensation of Rs 3,75,000.”

The couple had claimed that Rohit, a student of Class V, sustained grievous injury after being hit by the bus which was being driven in a rash and negligent manner, while he was crossing road with his mother in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh.

He was immediately taken to a hospital there and later referred to GTB hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to injuries during the course of the treatment.
