The psychoanalysis test of Sanjoy Roy, the main accused in the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has described him as a “sexual pervert” with “animal instincts.”

A team of experts from Delhi’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) began a psycho-analysis test of Roy on Sunday, following orders from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Psychoanalysts found Roy (31) to be seemingly unflustered while narrating his version of events at the crime scene, describing his account as being delivered “without a trace of emotion.” The experts also reviewed his statements to the CBI, comparing them with postmortem and forensic findings.

CBI officials informed the team that Roy’s presence at the crime scene had been corroborated by technical and scientific evidence. However, the results of DNA tests have not yet been disclosed.

Previously, Kolkata Police stated that traces of blood and skin found under the victim’s nails matched injuries on Roy’s hands. The CBI is expected to submit a status report on the investigation to the Supreme Court on Thursday. Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested by Kolkata Police a day after the trainee doctor’s semi-naked body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital.

According to reports, Roy, who is a trained boxer, had developed close ties with some senior police officers over the years, leading to his transfer to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and a posting at the police outpost at RG Kar Hospital.

CBI insiders revealed that CCTV footage from RG Kar Hospital showed Roy near the chest department ward around 11 a.m. on August 8, where the 31-year-old victim was present with at least four other junior doctors. Roy was observed staring at them before leaving. During interrogation, Roy claimed he had entered the ward earlier that evening. The CBI reported that the victim left the ward for dinner with other junior doctors and returned to the seminar hall a little after 1 a.m. on August 9.

A junior doctor entered the hall around 2:30 a.m., and the victim spoke with him before returning to sleep. Roy was later seen on CCTV footage re-entering the hospital premises at 4 a.m. Investigators believe he then reached the third-floor seminar hall where the victim was sleeping.

Roy is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday. Defense lawyers appointed by the state are expected to meet him for the first time on that day, as no lawyer was willing to represent him during his earlier court appearance. The CBI is considering a virtual hearing for safety reasons.
