The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Orissa High Court judge Justice Arindam Sinha to the Allahabad High Court ¹. This decision was made in the Collegium’s meetings held on March 6 and 20, 2025.

Justice Sinha has had a distinguished career, enrolling as an advocate on March 11, 1991, and practicing for 22 years, primarily at the Calcutta High Court. He was elevated as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court on October 30, 2013, and later appointed as a permanent judge on March 14, 2016. On October 8, 2021, he was sworn in as a judge of the Orissa High Court.

The Allahabad High Court is currently facing a significant vacancy crisis, with more than 50% of the judges’ posts lying vacant. A recent plea was moved in the court seeking directions for urgent and time-bound filling of these vacancies. With Justice Sinha’s transfer, the court will have 80 serving judges, but still, 80 posts will remain vacant.
