Supreme Court Grants Permanent Anticipatory Bail to Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV

The Supreme Court has granted permanent anticipatory bail to Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV in a case filed against him for allegedly outraging the modesty of a fellow Congress worker. The case is titled [BV Srinivas v. State of Assam].

A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai, Aravind Kumar, and Prashant Kumar Mishra issued this order after recognizing Srinivas’s cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Srinivas had previously been granted interim anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court in May of the same year.

This decision comes in response to Srinivas’s petition challenging the Gauhati High Court’s ruling that had refused to quash the first information report (FIR) filed against him. Srinivas argued that the complaint did not establish the alleged offenses. He further emphasized that the Assam Police had no jurisdiction to investigate or register an FIR for an incident that supposedly occurred in Chhattisgarh.

The complaint in question was filed by a woman who claimed that during the plenary session of the Congress Party at the Mayfair Hotel in Raipur on March 25, Srinivas had harassed her at the hotel’s entrance. He allegedly held her arms and used offensive language to threaten her. The complainant also asserted that Srinivas had warned her of severe consequences if she disclosed the incident to senior members of the Congress Party. Despite reporting his behavior to high-ranking members of the Congress Party, no action was taken, according to her claims.

The Assam government was represented by Senior Additional Advocate General Nalin Kohli in this hearing, while Advocates Rajesh Inamdar and Roopesh Bhaduria appeared on behalf of Srinivas.
