Death warrant for killer of 4 year-old-girl

Jamshedpur, A local court issued death warrant for a youth who was given capital punishment almost seven months ago for raping and killing a four-year-old girl from his neighbour in this industrial city last year, for his failure to file appeal in the Supreme Court within the stipulated time frame, Official Sources said today.

 

The youth, a resident of Railway Traffic colony in Baghbera area here had abducted, raped and killed the girl by strangulating her on February 6, 2010.

 

Her body was found from a nearby pit.

 

The culprit was arrested and lodged in jail.

 

A local court awarded him with capital punishment on February 18, 2011 for the heinous act. Later, the High Court also rejected his appeal on August 17 this year.

 

He was supposed to file an appeal in the Supreme Court by September 17 but it was not done.

 

He did not even file a caveat petition for buying some more time, the Sources said.

 

Additional District and Session Judge Pankaj Kumar issued the death warrant yesterday on the direction of the Jharkhand High Court for the failure of the accused to file an appeal in the Supreme Court within the stipulated time frame of 30 days, the sources said adding the action was taken in accordance with section 414 of the CrPC.
