EC bribery case: HC refuses bail to alleged middleman

The Delhi High Court today dismissed the bail plea of alleged middleman Sukesh Chandrashekar, arrested in the Election Commission bribery case involving AIADMK (Amma) faction leader T T V Dhinakaran.

Turning down Chandrashekar’s plea, Justice S Muralidhar observed that the police had seized fake Rajya Sabha member ID cards from him which is a “serious threat on Parliament’s security”.

“I am not inclined to grant bail to the accused. The recovery of forged identity card of Member of Parliament is not an ordinary forgery. The police is investigating into the matter,” the judge said.

The court further said a person holding the ID of an MP can easily enter Parliament House which is a serious threat.

A sessions court had on June 9 denied Chandrashekar relief saying the probe showed he was the key accused.

He was arrested on April 16 and had sought relief on

grounds of parity with Dhinakaran, who is out on bail.

Dhinakaran’s close aide Mallikarjuna and suspected hawala operators Nathu Singh and Lalit Kumar have also been granted bail.

The case pertains to Dhinakaran’s alleged attempt to bribe an Election Commission official for trying to get the party’s poll symbol of ‘two leaves’ in a by-election to the R K Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu.
