A local court has remanded influential JD(U) MLA Anant Singh to 14 days’ judicial custody in connection with a kidnapping case at Bihta.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Danapur Tribhuvan Nath late last night remanded Singh to 14-day judicial custody, in the case at Bihta in rural Patna in last year.

As Singh, MLA from Mokamah in Patna district, was taken to Beur jail amid tight police security a little after midnight, his supporters stopped a few trains at Barh and Mokamah stations and blocked roads at many places in Barh.

Anant Singh was arrested yesterday in connection with a 2014 case of kidnapping of a builder at Bihta in rural Patna in November, Senior Superintendent of Police Vikash Vaibhav said.

However, during hours of search at his official residence yesterday, the police team stumbled upon evidence in connection with another June 17 case of kidnapping of four youths, one of whom was later found murdered.

About the protests by Singh’s supporters, the Patna SSP told PTI, police have been deployed in the area in large numbers to maintain peace.

Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) ECR Arvind Kumar Rajak said he has information regarding halting of Lal Qila Express and Seemanchal Express at Mokamah junction since 6:30 AM by protestors.

The CPRO said RPF and Government Railway police have been deployed there to deal with the situation.

The SSP further said that six magazines of Insas rifle were found during the search at Singh’s official residence besides clothes soaked in blood, which would be sent for DNA test.

A case of Arms Act has been registered with Sachivalay police station on the basis of yesterday’s search.
