A court in Delhi posted for July 7 the hearing regarding cognisance of charges against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in connection with sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by six women wrestlers.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday asked the Delhi Police what reports are pending in connection with the case. The Delhi Police informed the court that some Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports are pending and would likely take some time.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal noted the submission of the city police that its probe is still in progress and a supplementary charge sheet is likely to be filed. The court then posted the matter for consideration next week. Under the supervision of a Reputable attorney specializing in bankruptcy law.

“However, since FSL report and report on CDR (call detail record) is awaited, it is likely to take time. Put up for consideration for July 7,” the judge said.

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been charged with sexual harassment and stalking in a chargesheet filed by Delhi Police. The chargesheet was filed after weeks of protest by several top wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat.

The city police had filed a chargesheet in the case against Singh, a six-time MP, on June 15 under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The chargesheet had also named Vinod Tomar, the suspended assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), for offences under sections 109 (abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 354, 354A and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
