Title: Regarding release of 17 TMC ft. of water to Andhra Pradesh for drinking water purpose.

SHRI K. YERRANNAIDU

(SRIKAKULAM): Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to raise a very important matter. I have earlier raised this matter on the floor of this House. The hon. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has requested the Chief Minister of Karnataka to release 17 TMC ft. of water to Andhra Pradesh for drinking water purpose. At the same time, he has also requested the Ministry of Water Resources to intervene in this matter.

Sir, there is enough water in Almatti Dam, but there is no canal system. Due to lack of canals, the water is not being utilised by the State of Karnataka. That is why, I appeal to the Government of India that they should intervene in the matter and pressurise the Government of Karnataka to release 17 TMC ft. of water to Andhra Pradesh for drinking water purpose.

Sir, I would also request Shrimati Sonia Gandhi to intervene in this matter. The whole country is one. They have abundant water in Almatti Dam, but we are suffering due to lack of drinking water in Andhra Pradesh. If the Government of Karnataka is using the water of Almatti Dam, there is no problem, but they are not using it and as a result of that, low-lying areas are getting submerged. Therefore, I would appeal, through you, to the Government of India to intervene in this matter and convince the Government of Karnataka to release 17 TMC ft. of water to Andhra Pradesh for drinking water purpose. … (Interruptions)
