                                   DT. MARCH 23, 2007

                                          JUDGMENT

Petitioner No.1 is an association of employees representing the

personal staff in the Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (for short, the company).

Petitioners 2 and 3 are stated to be stenographers working in the company.

2. The grievance of the petitioners appears to be that they have been

stagnating in the post of stenographers for long and thus their promotional

avenues are being adversely affected. I do not propose to deal with the

above and other contentions raised by the petitioners at this stage in view of

the limited prayer made by learned counsel for the petitioners at the Bar. It is

submitted that petitioners will be satisfied if an appropriate direction is issued

to the 2nd respondent to consider and dispose of Ext.P17 representation.

Learned standing counsel for the company submits that an appropriate

decision on Ext.P17 will be taken expeditiously.

3. In the above facts and circumstances this writ petition is disposed of

with a direction to the 2nd respondent to consider and pass orders on Ext.P17

representation strictly on its merit and in accordance with law as expeditiously

as possible, at any rate, within four months from the date of receipt of a copy

of this judgment. An authorised representative of the petitioners shall be

afforded sufficient opportunity to be heard before any decision is taken. The

petitioners shall produce a copy of this judgment along with a copy of the writ

petition before the 2nd respondent for compliance.
