Title: Need for early modernisation of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Calcutta.
SHRIMATI KRISHNA BOSE (JADAVPUR): Sir, there is an urgent need to expedite the modernisation of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Calcutta.
The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Calcutta was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India in the centenary year of Netaji in January, 1997.
The domestic side of the airport was newly built and has modern amenities like aerobridges and also elevators and escalators. Since then, we have been hearing that the international side is being modernised and restructured. Nearly four years have passed since then. But for want of aerobridge, passengers by international flights have to get down at a distance, get into a bus and arrive at immigration. The space for immigration is very restricted. There are long waiting queues. There is one conveyor belt and passengers have to wait for a very long time for luggage clearance.
I urge upon the Minister for Civil Aviation to look into the matter and see how the work can be expedited and International passengers have better amenities.
