Title: Need to address the problem of unauthorised occupants of Railway Land at Kharagpur Railway Station.
(MIDNAPORE): Sir, recently an initiative has been taken by the Rail authorities to dismantle the structures, huts and houses built by the persons on unused Railway lands. The situation turns into a serious threat to more than 20 thousand people in Kharagpur at the areas, namely, Chhatispara Chaina Town, Azad Basti, Ramnagar, Biswaranjannagar, C.R. Nagar, Turipara, Sampeta Basti, Subhas Nagar, Nimpura and so on. Most of them are landless and poor. Most of them settled there for decades together since the foundation of Kharagpur Station. Their only livelihood is to work in Rail Sector in different categories. The present initiative taken by the Railway Administration will put them into a stage of disaster and it may cause serious social crisis, law and order problem as well. I urge upon the Railway Ministry to address this problem and to take necessary steps to protect the concerned people by welfare measures.
