Need To Commence With The Gauge Conversion Work On … on 2 March, 2005

Title: Need to commence with the gauge conversion work on Virudhunagar-Manamadurai route by allocating adequate funds.- Laid.

 

SHRI RAVICHANDRAN SIPPIPARAI (SIVAKASI): The Tenkasi – Virudhunagar broad gauge conversion has been completed and the Manamadurai – Madurai broad gauge conversion is nearing for completion.  Now in the coming year it is proposed to start the gauge conversion work between Trichy and Puddukottai.

            Along with the conversion in this section, it is necessary for the gauge conversion in between Virudhunagar and Manamadurai for a distance of 67 KM.  It the Virudhunagar – Manamadurai broad gauge work is completed it would be easy for the passenger trains and goods trains to reach Trichy from Virudhunagar as an alternate route to the existing rouge throuhg Madurai – Dindigul which is a highly congested due to which some times accidents may also occur.  Moreover, the MSL (Mean Sea Level) in the Virudhunagar- Manamadurai is much lower compared to Madurai – Dindigul – Trichy Sector whereby consumption of fuel can be reduced.  Further, it will be useful for the large number of Rameswaram bound devotees from the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

            Now, I request the Minister to take up the Virudhunagar – Manamadurai broad gauge route through Aruppukkottai in the coming financial year by allotting adequate funds for preliminary work.
