Title : Need to convert Sengapalli-Neelampur and Sengapalli-Valayar stretch of NH-47 in Tamil Nadu to six lane and four lane roads, respectively.
SHRI C. SIVASAMI (TIRUPPUR): Hon. Chairman, Sir, in Tamil Nadu the road between Sengapalli to Neelampur in NH-47 is providing link between Chennai -Bangalore and Coimbatore-Tiruppur-Ooty-Kerala. This is the main road from Erode and Tiruppur to Coimbatore. Sir, per minute about 100 vehicles are plying on this road. The Government has sanctioned the conversion of the existing road into six-lane. The National Highway Authority is the implementing agency. But the work is yet to start. The sanction is already accorded for the conversion of Neelampur to Valayar road into four-lane. Due to the proposed conversions the existing roads are not maintained properly. There were 180 accidents on this road in the last six months. Nearly sixty five persons have lost their lives. Therefore, I would request the Government to get the repair and maintainance of the existing road till the completion of conversion and also to direct the NHAI to expedite the conversion works at an early date.
