Title: Need to exempt River Bed Power House of Sardar Sarovar-Project from import duty-Laid.
(KUTCH) : River Bed Power House (RBPH) of Sardar Sarovar Project in Gujarat State will generate 1200 M.W. power by six 200 MW capacity pump turbine motor generating sets which are to be imported from Japan at the contract price of 24,646.161 million Japanese Yen.
Government of Gujarat seeks custom duty exemption for getting such exemption this project requires to be certified as mega project by officer not below the rank of Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Power as required under custom notification No. 63/99. To consider the decision of Government of India and include this project in the list of projects specially exempted from payment of import duty as a special case.
I, therefore, urge the Minister of Power, to include River Bed Power House of Sardar Sarovar Project in the list of project specially exempted from import duty at the earliest.
