Need To Hand Over Railway Land Near Ennore Railway Station To … on 10 May, 2000

Title: Need to hand over railway land near Ennore railway station to Government of Tamil Nadu for regularisation of slum colonies and also sanction construction of sub-way work near Stanley Hospital.

SHRI C. KUPPUSAMI (MADRAS NORTH): Hon. Speaker, Sir, there is a long-standing demand from thousands of poor people in my constituency for de-regularisation of their slums spread over four locations near Ennore railway station known as Valluvar Nagar, MGR Nagar and Sanjay Gandhi Nagar. The State Government of Tamil Nadu also wanted to regularise their colonies and to formally allot Pattas to the slum dwellers by purchasing the land from the Railways. Since, the land is lying idle and not useful to the Railways, I would request the hon. Railway Minister to hand over the Railway land to the State Government for regularisation of these slum areas.

Similarly, level-crossing near a big Government hospital called Stanley Hospital near Mint falling in my constituency of Chennai North, is closed due to road traffic most of the time which leads to traffic hold up consequently. Hence, there is a demand for construction of subway in place of the existing level-crossing. This will also ensure a proper connectivity between the two wings of the Stanley Hospital, apart from facilitating smooth flow of traffic in the heart of the city.

I would, therefore, request the hon. Railway Minister to favourably consider the above two demands of our constituency and accord sanction of the Ministry for handing over the railway land to the State Government near Ennore Station and also for sanction of construction of subway work near Stanley Hospital, in place of existing level-crossing in Chennai North.
