Title: Need to issue order of Delimitation Commission regarding delimitation of the Assembly and Parliamentary Constituency of the Union Territory of Pondicherry. â Laid.
PROF. M. RAMADASS (PONDICHERRY): The Delimitation Commission of India carried out the delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituency of the Union Territory of Pondicherry. The Commission, after following the due process of procedure as laid down by the Delimitation Act, completed the task of delimitation of Constituencies on 30.3.2005. The same was published in the Official Gazette of Government of India and vernacular paper on 31st March, 2005. It is understood that the Commission has sent the order copies to his Excellency the President of India and Parliament through the Ministry of Law & Justice. However, the Ministry of Law and Justice has not issued the order communicating the date from which the order of delimitation commission will come into effect. The people of Pondicherry are at loss to understand the delay of four months in issuing the order by the Ministry of Law & Justice. This has raised needless confusion and suspicion in the mind of the public and political parties whether the delimitation of constituencies will be applicable for the next Assembly elections due in May 2006.
It is requested that the Ministry of Law & Justice should clarify its position in this regard immediately so that political parties can be certain of their activities in the future.
