Need To Persuade Government Of Karnataka To Release 70 Tmc Water From … on 3 December, 2002

Title: Need to persuade Government of Karnataka to release 70 TMC water from Almatti Dam for the benefits of farmers of Mahaboobnagar and other districts in Andhra Pradesh.

DR. MANDA JAGANNATH

(NAGAR KURNOOL): Andhra Pradesh needs water to irrigate Mahaboobnagar and other districts in Telangana region which is facing a severe drought. Similarly, Kurnool and several other districts are facing an acute drinking water shortage. A slight inter-State co-operation can solve the water scarcity problem of the State. Karnataka’s Almatti Dam is full to the brim, and the water stored is lying without any benefit to the people. If the Karnataka State releases 70 TMC water, the problem of scarcity of water for drinking and irrigation purposes of Andhra Pradesh could be solved to a great extent.

As all the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh State Government to convince Karnataka to release water failed, I request the hon. Prime Minister to intervene and persuade the Karnataka State to release water in the public interest.
