Title: Need to procure the cotton from cotton-growers of Andhra Pradesh facing distress due to suspension of cotton-purchase by Cotton Corporation of India.
SHRI KINJARAPU YERRANNAIDU (SRIKAKULAM): I would like to bring to the notice of the Union Government about the plight of the Cotton growers in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has suspended its purchase for over a fortnight from the cotton growers. Due to this, more than 12 lakh quintals of Cotton are lying unpurchased in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar and Warangal. In the prevailing state of confusion the cotton growers have suffered great losses for no fault of theirs. They have already incurred huge debts for raising the cotton crop.
In view of the pathetic marketing conditions and prevailing loss and distress of the Cotton growers in the State of Andhra Pradesh, I urge upon the Central Government to kindly direct the Cotton Corporation of India to enter into the market and purchase the normal cotton- rain soaked and dried cotton at MSP immediately and save the cotton farming community from the present deepening crisis.
