Title: Need to provide Special Financial Package for the drought affected farmers of Assam.
SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL (DIBRUGARH): Sir, Assam was badly hit by drought in the recent past. As a result more than 20 lakhs farmers are badly affected. The affected areas include the districts namely: Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Naogaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia etc. So, I request you to urgently intervene into the matter and take the following steps to rescue the farmers from the natural calamities.
a) Urgent visit of a central team to the drought affected areas;
b) To take appropriate steps to supply water to the farmers;
c) Free supply of seeds to the farmers;
d) To modernize water supply irrigation schemes, throughout the state of Assam with adequate financial assistance and better technology;
e) To activise shallow tube well, Government should supply diesel to the farmers at free of cost;
f) Central special package with financial assistance should be given to the farmers to compensate for their damages.
I urge upon the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture to take the above mentioned measures urgently.
