Title : Need to streamline the Public Distribution System in Manipur.

SHRI MANI CHARENAMEI (OUTER MANIPUR): Sir, I wish to draw the attention of the Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution System towards the complete failure of the Public Distribution System inn the state of Manipur particularly in the five hill Districts of Manipur. Poor villagers who are below Poverty line (BPL) have been unable to purchase food grains and other essential commodities at the price fixed by the government due to artificial food shortage crisis arising out of the total control of Public Distribution System by the underground outfits operating in Imphal valley. The poor villagers are compelled to buy rice at Rs. 12 to Rs.15 per kg, sugar at Rs. 30/kg, and kerosene at Rs.35/litre.

Not a single fair price shop is operating in any of the hill Districts, food grains meant for BPL category people are not made available to the needy people.

Further, the two hill districts namely Tamenglong and Churachandpur have been hit by famine like situation due to extensive damage of agriculture crops by the rodents.

I, therefore, urge upon the Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution and also the Home Minister to arrange adequate food grains exclusively for Tamenglong and Churachandpur Districts by directly transporting the food grains to the District H/Qs so that the food grains shortage can be tackled effectively.
