Title: Need to take suitable steps to boost export of agricultural products from Hassan, Karnataka- Laid.
(HASSAN) : Chillies, potatos, copra, onion including rose onion, tomato and most of the vegetables and a large variety of flowers are grown in abundance in Hassan district. But the future of the farmers is gloomy as there are no marketing and packing facilities. The Centre which is setting up cold storage and food processing units in many States has not paid adequate attention towards Hassan district for the last several decades in this regard. Hassan is very near to Mangalore Harbour in Karnataka. Despite all these factors, the farmers of the Hassan district are not in a position to export any of the above mentioned commodities.
Our repeated request and the demand by the Government of Karnataka ultimately convinced the Government of India and the Centre has announced the setting up Special Economic Zone in Hassan. This announcement came two years ago and till today there is no progress in this matter. I request the Central Government to take expeditious action in this regard.
