Title: References made to the passing away of Shri M.V. Chandrashekhara Murthy (Member 6th and sitting member of Lok Sabha) on 21.11.2001.

MR. SPEAKER: Hon. Members, I have to inform the House with profound sorrow of the passing away of one of our esteemed colleagues, Shri M.V. Chandrashekhara Murthy.
           Shri M.V. Chandrashekhara Murthy was a sitting member of Lok Sabha representing Kanakapura Parliamentary Constituency of Karnataka. He was also a member of Sixth to Tenth Lok Sabha from 1977 to 1996 representing the same Parliamentary Constituency.
           An able administrator, Shri Murthy served in the Union Council of Ministers as Minister of State for Finance during 1993-96.
           Shri Murthy was an active parliamentarian. He served as Chairman, House Committee during 1983-84 and Committee on Papers Laid on the Table during 1985-86. He was member of various other Parliamentary and Consultative Committees.
           An agriculturist and lawyer by profession, Shri Murthy was an active social and political worker. He also took keen interest in promotion of sports.
           Shri M.V. Chandrashekhara Murthy passed away in the early hours today, that is, 21st November, 2001 at Bangalore at the age of 61 after a brief illness.
           We deeply mourn the loss of this friend and I am sure the House would join me in conveying our condolences to the bereaved family.
           The House may now stand in silence for a short while as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed soul.
