Title: Regarding the Union Government’s decision to privatize the Fertilizers and Chemcials Tranancore (FACT), Alwaye, Kerala.

SHRI V.M. SUDHEERAN

(ALLEPPEY): Sir, I would like to invite the urgent attention of the government to the mounting rage and protests in Kerala against the decision of the Union Government to privatise FACT, Alwaye. Irrespective of Party or other affiliation and affinities, the people of the State are united in condemning and opposing this decision. The State Government has also written to the Centre and apprised the Centre of its objection. The decision of the Union Government cannot be justified on any count especially on the basis of the reported losses of the recent time. If at all there has been any loss, it is the result of the wrong policies of the Centre such as withdrawal of fertilizer subsidy and increase in the price of Naphtha. It is an offence against the people’s interest if not a deliberate attempt to destroy the prestigious public asset.

Therefore, I urge upon the Government to desist from this disastrous step and save the FACT in the interest of the country. Thank you.
