Title: Request the Ministry of external Affairs to pressurise the Government of United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) to withdraw the ban on the issue of visa to Indian Labourers in UAE.
SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH (ADOOR): Sir, the U.A.E. Government has banned visa to Indian labourers, mostly unskilled, during the last more than one year. In this situation, thousands of Indian families, thousands of unskilled labourers have lost their employment opportunities and it will also affect thousands of poor families. Majority of them belong to Kerala.… (Interruptions)
MR. SPEAKER: Hon. Members, please take your seat. I will call you. Please sit down.
SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH : The ban on issue of visa by U.A.E. Government has put labourers in Kerala in a very pathetic situation. In U.A.E., the Indians are mostly engaged in the semi-skilled labour. Unskilled labourers in India are not getting visa. The U.A.E. Government was always interested in Indian labourers in the past and the Government of U.A.E. was giving special consideration to the Indian labourers and used to recruit them for various posts either skilled or unskilled and other top posts. We sincerely thank the U.A.E. Administration for giving employment opportunities to Indians.
I think the present situation has arisen due to the misunderstanding of the U.A.E. Government. I also sincerely thank the U.A.E. Administration to give employment opportunities and protection to the Indians in the U.A.E. If there is any misunderstanding in the mind of the U.A.E. Government towards Indian labourers, the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs should urgently intervene in the matter and resume bilateral discussion between the two countries. Also, the Government of India should pressurise the U.A.E. Government to withdraw the ban on the issue of visa to Indian labourers in U.A.E.
