Scarcity Of Drinking Water In The Raniganj Coal Fields Area. on 23 March, 2005

Title: Scarcity of drinking water in the Raniganj Coal Fields area.

SHRI BIKASH CHOWDHURY (ASANSOL): Mr. Speaker, Sir, Raniganj Coalfields area covers Burdwan district and some portions of Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia districts. Heavy water scarcity is felt for many years in the above areas due to the deeper mining methods and underground and open cast projects. Water bodies under the ground and on the surface have completely destroyed. Water is not available even at the depth of 300 metres. Under these circumstances, Eastern Coalfields Limited have to take action because their activities are going on in these areas. Central Government should also undertake measures by coming forward to provide drinking water and provide water for other purposes. I would request the Central Government to come forward by extending a sum of Rs.100 crore for providing water for domestic use and for other purposes in the Raniganj Coalfields Area. Thank you, Sir.

अध्यक्ष महोदय : श्री तूफानी सरोज, यह आजमगढ़-गाजीपुर राजकीय सड़क राज्य सरकार के अंतर्गत है या केंद्रीय सरकार के अधीन है?
